Job Title: RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN

General Duties and Responsibilities​

  • Perform precision calibrations on Kaelus brand test and measurement (T&M) equipment currently consisting of but not limited to the iBA, SI, iPA, iTA, RTF and iVA families of test equipment.  
  • Perform electronic and mechanical repairs down to the component level for Kaelus brand T&M equipment.
  • Operate and maintain advanced trouble shooting RF test equipment such as; Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator, Power Meter, Power Sensor, Power Supply, and RF attenuators. 
  • Show proficiency with reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, block diagrams, test procedures and assembly instructions.
  • Utilize automated and manual test programs such as; TestPoint 2 (TP2), iPA/iQA/iVA Calibrator, PIM Server, Virtual Front Panel and others that apply to the T&M Service Center.
  • Utilize Microsoft NAV Service Module to catalog and invoice customer equipment throughout the maintenance, repair and calibration process (RMA).
  • Ensure proper itemization of repair parts and shipping materials for accounting and customer billing accuracy.
  • Perform small component repair requiring micro soldering of components.
  • Perform Firmware and Software updates/upgrades.
  • Responsible for maintaining tools, test equipment, work benches and shared work areas while keeping in mind cleanliness, safety and electrostatic discharge (ESD) compliance. 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in other projects for Kaelus T&M or RF conditioning products within the Kaelus Brand
  • Report, document and share with the T&M team new or unseen errors in products and test procedures

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Degree, Diploma in RF Electronics/Communications or equivalent work experience
  • Hands on RF circuit experience (design, test, faultfinding etc.) to component, modular and system level (10 years minimum).
  • Advanced level of problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Advanced aptitude for reading and interpreting schematic drawings, system block diagrams, test procedures and assembly instructions etc.
  • Specific ability to do fault-finding down to component level on complex high power (120W) RF systems and products.
  • Experience in the use of RF Test Equipment (Network Analysers, Power Meters, Signal Generators etc).
  • High power RF measurement equipment to 120W
  • Receiver sensitivity measurements
  • Automated test systems
  • Well-rounded RF, analogue and digital electronics background.
  • Analogue: switch mode and linear PSU, Operational Amplifiers, Comparators, voltage dividers, filters
  • Digital: I2C protocol, RS232 protocol, logic gates, PIC controllers, ADC and DAC, synthesisers
  • RF: Synthesisers, Voltage Controlled Oscillators, Phase Locked Loops, amplifiers, attenuators, mixers, dividers, couplers, balun, RF filters, power amplifiers, hybrid combiners, power detectors, impedance matching, RL, gain, receivers
  • Bluetooth and WiFi experience with knowledge of relevant industrial standards
  • Low temperature, lead-free, surface mount (down to 0402) soldering skills, preferably trained to J-standard and IPC-610
  • Ethernet networking protocols, Serial Communications RS232, FTDI USB, in-process firmware programming, software testing experience
  • Good English communication and comprehension skills, both written and verbal.
  • General computer skills, MS Office intermediate level
  • Compliance with ISO quality systems and QMS
